Avandia (Rosiglitazone) and Strokes

Studies have linked Avandia (Rosiglitazone) to an increased risk of a stroke. The study was done in Canada and found that Avandia increased users risk of a stroke by 27%.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it will significantly restrict the use of the diabetes drug Avandia (Rosiglitazone) to patients with Type 2 diabetes who cannot control their diabetes on other medications. These new restrictions are in response to data that suggest an elevated risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, in patients treated with Avandia. [1]

Studies have suggested that the use of Rosiglitazone may be associated with an increased risk of serious cardiovascular events compared with other treatments for type 2 diabetes. [2]
